Despite her cover-model pedigree, actress Bridget Moynahan keeps things low-maintenance. “I wash my face, put on sunblock, put on light makeup and head out the door,” the 47-year-old has said. “I pretty much get ready faster than the majority of men that I know.”
The star of CBS’ Blue Bloods also doesn’t give any thought to how old she is.
“I don’t really know when age matters,” she said. “I weigh the same as I did in high school, but … I’ve never been more fit!”
For Moynahan, being healthy starts and ends with basics. “I know everybody would love to hear about a secret pill or great cleanse,” she said. “It’s just going back to what we were taught in school … eating and working out.”
Moynahan doesn’t work out to lose weight. She just needs an outlet for her abundant energy.
“I’ve just always been active,” the Serendipity star said. “It’s been part of my lifestyle my entire life. It’s been instilled from my childhood.”
Moynahan grew up playing team sports and spent her summers at tennis and basketball sports camps. She believes it’s vital to begin healthy life habits as early as possible.
“You’ll carry skills with you that will help you socially or even with work,” she attested. “You can go anywhere in the world and pick something up — waterskiing, skiing, surfing … you just adapt.”
As Moynahan suggests, playing team sports has a multitude of therapeutic gains. While physically demanding, team sports also develop leadership abilities, social skills, communal respect and a healthy sense of purpose.
Currently, however, Moynahan does have the benefit of a private trainer.
“We’re concentrating on core work and leg strengthening, to get those legs nice and long and lean,” the 5-foot-10 star said. “It’s a combination of wanting to be strong, fit and healthy, and enjoying the stress release.”
Moynahan admits to one secret remedy, which she usually does alone in her bedroom.
“I like to nap,” she confessed. “I think that’s a really good health habit. Rest really helps you in many ways.”
A 20- to 30-minute nap improves mental clarity, boosts productivity and minimizes mess-ups. Space science agency NASA found that after a nap, pilot performance improved by 100 percent!
“If you’re treating yourself with respect and making a healthy lifestyle, it can only rub off on your children,” Moynahan said. “I eat most of my meals with my son, and he eats whatever I’m eating.”
Moynahan and her 11-year-old son Jack — dad is former flame and NFL star Tom Brady — usually have a sit-down dinner with lean protein and veggies. Though she admits they also eat “anything within reason,” Moynahan does have a few “do-nots.”
“I’m not going to sit here and eat fried Twinkies,” she said. “I’m not grazing in front of the fridge or snacking between meals because I don’t want him doing that.”
Moynahan takes her own snacks to film sets, where craft service tables loaded with sweets can be tempting.
“There’s nothing worse than eating junk food because there’s nothing else available,” she said. “If I need a snack, I’ve got celery and carrots and hummus.”
Despite her busy schedule, Moynahan always makes time for friends.
“I’d rather spend time with my son than anyone in the world,” Moynahan admits. “But … if you’re only working or only spending time with your family, you’re out of balance.”
Chilling with a group of friends is actually an incredible natural cure for low self-confidence and relationship or job-related stress. It also boosts happiness, which improves overall mental health.

“If you’re healthy all around, you’ll feel better, and if you feel better, you’ll have a more positive outlook,” Moynahan added. “It’s all connected.”
