Shawn Johnson

Shawn Johnson was born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa. She started to do gymnastics when she was 3 and went on to compete in the 2008 Olympics, where she won a gold medal for the balance beam and took home a silver medal for the all-around and floor exercise. Johnson is also a three-time U.S. all-around champion.

In 2009, Johnson won season 8 of Dancing With the Stars and later came in second place during season 15’s all-star edition of the ABC competition show. She announced her retirement from gymnastics in June 2012.

The former athlete has written two memoirs: Shawn Johnson: Olympic Champion: Stories Behind the Smile, released in 2008, and Winning Balance: What I’ve Learned So Far about Love, Faith, and Living Your Dreams in 2012. Four years later, Johnson released her debut young adult novel, The Flip Side.

Johnson got engaged to Andrew East in 2015 and the couple got married one year later. The twosome announced in April 2019 that they were expecting their first child, Two years after Johnson suffered a miscarriage. They welcomed daughter Drew in October 2019 and announced in March 2021 that they were expecting baby No. 2, a boy.
