Senior Editor Mariel Turner joined the Us Weekly team in 2019 and currently resides in Los Angeles. When Mariel isn’t interviewing your fave celebrities, she can be found watching Mad Men, Sex and the City, Law & Order: SVU or This Is Us on her couch. She has a huge passion for travel and tries to visit a new country every year. The Detroit native also enjoys Michigan football (Go Blue!), workout classes, anything vintage and all things Beyoncé.

Work or writing background leading to expertise

Before joining Us Weekly, Mariel worked as an entertainment reporter and editor. At Us, she writes and edits a high volume of daily content and helps lead a team of writers and editors. She also makes time to cover and report from premieres, red carpets and award shows when she can, and has previously covered the Critics’ Choice Awards, the SAG Awards and the NAACP Image Awards. Through the years, she has conducted in-studio interviews and hosted aftershow podcasts.

 

Some of her favorite interviews include Glenn Close, Lady Gaga, Sterling K. Brown, Kelly Rowland, Tamera Mowry-Housley, Zoë Kravitz, Yara Shahidi and Gugu Mbatha-Raw. Her ultimate dream in life is to land an interview with her best friend in her head, Rihanna, or Queen Bey.

Education

Mariel graduated from the University of Michigan- Ann Arbor in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in communications, and earned a master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University in 2015.

Work history

Mariel previously worked as a digital producer at KTLA 5 News where she covered everything local, from brush fires to police chases. She later freelanced for EBONY Magazine’s entertainment department before landing a position as an entertainment editor for MSN’s Wonderwall.com.
