Squad goals! Jacob Tremblay didn’t win at the 2016 SAG Awards, but he did make a new friend: Leonardo DiCaprio. The adorable 9-year-old Room actor snapped a photo with the Oscar-nominated star during the live show in L.A. Saturday, January 30.
“This just happened!!!” Tremblay captioned the Instagram pic. “I finally met #leonardodicaprio #sagawards.” (Tremblay also got a photo with Rachel McAdams and the cast of Orange Is the New Black.)
Tremblay posted about the special meet-and-greet after presenting the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries category with his Room costar Brie Larson. Tremblay joked about being nominated at such a young age and that he was in the same category as “Batman,” aka The Big Short’s Christian Bale.
Tremblay — who won at the Critics’ Choice Awards — lost out to Idris Elba for Best Male Actor in a Supporting Role. Larson, however, won for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role, and thanked Tremblay in her speech.
DiCaprio, meanwhile, continued his awards season winning streak on Saturday night. The nine-time SAG nominee, 41 — who smoked his vape pen at his seat — finally won his first one for The Revenant. DiCaprio made audiences swoon when he hugged his Titanic costar and longtime BFF Kate Winslet before taking the stage to accept the award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role.
The former child star later opened up about one of his first acting acting gigs while speaking with reporters backstage.
“My first role was a Matchbox Cars commercial. I played a little gangster, slicked-back hair. What did I learn from it? I was just so incredibly nervous. I remembered the lesson I learned from it was just know your lines. Really,” he said. “Just get that over with because once you learn your lines, then you can kind of settle into all the other moments in the scene.”
