Nicki Minaj is standing by her man. The “Anaconda” singer sat in a Philadelphia court to support her boyfriend, rapper Meek Mill, on Friday, February 5, as he was sentenced to 90 days of house arrest for violating probation.
Mill, 28, has violated his probation four times in eight years, but on Friday, the rapper attempted to ask for another chance.
“I believe I can be the bright star you expect me to be,” he told Judge Genece Brinkley, according to Philly.com, adding that he was sorry for “embarrassing” the court and his probation officer.
Brinkley previously determined that Mill had violated the terms of his probation for a 2008 conviction for drug dealing and gun possession, and he was sentenced on Friday.
In addition to wearing an ankle monitor for 90 days starting March 1, the “All Eyes on You” rapper will also have to spend six more years on probation and be required to perform community service.
Mill is prohibited from recording, releasing or performing music while he is under house arrest.
Despite the harsh restrictions of his sentence, however, Mill will at least be spared from state prison, which his lawyer, Frank DeSimone, told the court would “decapitate him.”
“He’s immature, judge,” DeSimone said, according to BET.com. “But he’s turning his life around.”
