Smart cookies! One Girl Scout troop from Suffolk County, New York, is using a clever Leonardo DiCaprio campaign to sell more cookies.
An official Facebook page for Girl Scout Cookies posted the troop’s viral sign, which references the moment from the 2016 Academy Awards where The Revenant star bought some Trefoils before finally accepting his Oscar for best actor and the viral “Be Like Bill” meme.
“This is Leo. Leo wants an Oscar. Leo buys Girl Scout Cookies at the Awards. Leo wins an Oscar. Leo is smart. Be like Leo. Buy Girl Scout cookies,” the homemade poster reads.
At the Oscars ceremony, host Chris Rock encouraged the hungry A-listers to purchase the classic treats from his daughters Zahra and Lola’s Girl Scout troop. “I want you to reach into your millionaire pockets and I want you to buy some of my daughters’ Girl Scout cookies,” he joked. “Are we going to deny my princesses from cookies?”
The young ladies told ABC News that the DiCaprio marketing campaign definitely helped their sales. “It made people stop at the table to read the sign, and then we were able to ask them to buy cookies. It’s hard to say no to a Girl Scout,” the troop told the news station.
