American teen Mason Wells, who was injured in the Tuesday, March 22, terror attacks in Brussels, was also involved in the attacks on Boston and Paris.
Wells, 19, a Mormon missionary, was at the Brussels airport at the time of the explosions, having accompanied other missionaries who were traveling back to America to the check-in desks.
The teen suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon, shrapnel injuries and second- and third-degree burns, his father, Chad Wells, told ABC News.
But this was not Mason’s first brush with terrorism. According to his mom, Kymberly Wells, he and his dad were just a block away from the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013.
“[The Boston bomb] had shaken their bodies,” Kymberly, who ran the marathon, told the outlet, adding that her husband “had taken Mason to our hotel and said to stay there. Mason was very calm and composed.”
The family added that Mason had also been in France during the Paris attacks last year.
“Mason has always assured us that he is safe and careful,” Kymberly said. “I told him, first and foremost, always be aware of your surroundings, please be very careful when you’re traveling, be very observant to people around you.”
Mason’s parents said they had spoken to their son, who was in a hospital in Brussels, and expect him to make a full recovery.
“He shared with us that he was extremely close to the blast where he was burned by it,” dad Chad continued. “It’s a blessing from God he’s alive. I think the Boston experience helped him to stay calm.”
