So sweet!
Kelly Rowland is pairing up with her makeup artist Sheika Daley for a cosmetics line — especially for “chocolate girls.”
The Grammy Award–winning songstress and ex–Destiny’s Child member, 35, already has a game plan. “We’re starting off with lashes, and then we’re going to have it grow for all women,” she said in a March 21 interview with Essence. “But definitely making sure we have our chocolate girls covered. Gotta get the chocolate girls in there! We have to have that, you know. I think Iman has done a beautiful makeup line, and I want to do it too!”
The untitled line (that doesn’t have a release date just yet) is truly destiny for Rowland. She spoke out about colorism during the SXSW Music Conference in Austin March 19, where she showed a preview of her new talent show, BET’s Chasing Destiny. Reflecting on the selection process, Rowland explained that she actively sought out darker-skinned women as they’re rarely seen in the media.
“One of the things I looked for first was chocolate girls, because I feel it’s so necessary for my niece … she has to see more chocolate women,” Rowland said.
“No disrespect for lighter women, but we have to see all colors. I want to be a part of a change in that.”
