At least it was the right team! Kansas City Royals pitcher Edinson Volquez became a trending topic on Sunday, April 3, after he took to the mound at Kauffman Stadium wearing the wrong hat on Opening Day.
The 32-year-old MLB pro kicked off the game in the team's hat from spring training — a royal-blue cap emblazoned with the thin KC lettering topped by a crown. After the first inning, Volquez was notified of his blunder. He returned to the mound in the second inning wearing the appropriate headwear: a more formal blue cap with the team's logo stitched in gold and the World Series champion logo on the left side. (The Royals are the reigning champs after beating the New York Mets last October. The 2015 rivals met again on Sunday.)

Volquez laughed off the incident, and his teammates shrugged it off too. "I didn't even notice," first baseman Eric Hosmer said, according to the Kansas City Star. "We had so many times and schedules for where we had to be today for everything, so I can definitely see where that got caught up in the mix."
Catcher Sal Perez added: "He can wear whatever hat he wants."
