It’s hair-raising! Lupita Nyong’o outdid every hairstyle at the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala 2016. The Oscar winner’s gravity-defying ‘do even sparked some hilarious reactions via Twitter.
While she took a risk with her hair, Nyong’o sparkled in her Calvin Klein Collection dress with Tiffany & Co. jewels. The jade green gown boasted a dramatic train and velvet straps.
Makeup artist Nick Barose enhanced the beauty’s features even further. “We kept the makeup monochromatic and played with shine, with metallic on the eyes and bronzy lips against her skin,” Barose told Us, noting he used Lancome Color Design 5 Pan Eyeshadow Palette in Gris Fumee topped by Urban Decay Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner in Glamrock and Lancome Le Lipstique in Sheer Chocolate layered with L’Absolue Rouge in Henne.
But it was her hairstyle, created by the 12 Years a Slave Oscar winner’s go-to pro Vernon Francois, that stood out. He seemingly swept her hair (and a few extensions) into a three-part, segmented bun that rose high above her head.
While some are praising Nyong’o’s high hairstyle (Andre Leon Talley Instagrammed about her “Nina Simone elegance”), some tweeters are drawing other comparisons. See the funny tweets below!
