That's one way to pay tribute to a hero. Game of Thrones fans who were overcome with grief on Sunday, May 22, after the show revealed Hodor's horrible fate, will either love or hate this: The gentle giant is being memorialized in a variety of doorstops.
The latest episode of the HBO fantasy series showed Hodor dying as he saved Bran Stark from an army of zombies, but the scenes also revealed in a time-jump how Hodor, who was originally named Wyllis, got a new moniker after he saw his future and his vocabulary shrunk to one word — "Hodor" — a truncated version of his last effort to "hold the door."
Since Sunday, when some fans had an emotional breakdown on Twitter over the beloved character's demise, some enterprising people have come up with a practical way to pay tribute — with Hodor doorstoppers that will actually "Hold the door." Someone has launched a Kickstarter project and there are several different Hodor doorstops available on Etsy.
Kristian Nairn, who plays Hodor, said in an interview with the Wall Street Journal on Tuesday, May 24, that seeing a doorstop with his face and body on it was "crazy."
"This is next-level stuff," he added. "It's just incredible."
