Girlfriend of the year! Gigi Hadid was honored with the Our New Girlfriend award at Spike TV’s 10th annual Guys Choice Awards on Saturday, June 4, just days after her split from boyfriend Zayn Malik.
The 21-year-old model looked nervous as she took the stage to receive her award, wearing a short black-and-white patterned dress with sheer cutouts, paired with sky-high heels.
“I thought I was gonna come and wing [my speech] and be good,” she began. “But then I woke up early this morning and thought, Gigi, there is no way you’re going to be calm or cool in front of Kobe, ever, in your life. So I called a friend and I said, ‘What do I say that is funny?’ [And she said], ’Try and think of something you did mean to a crush in middle school or try and make a joke about that.’ But I was like, ‘I have always been a good girlfriend, even when in middle school, when I have had crushes, I have always been kind of nice.’”
Previous recipients of the award have included Kate Upton, Chrissy Teigen, Hannah Davis and Emily Ratajkowski.
Hadid and Malik, 23, parted ways earlier this week after seven months of dating, though the Victoria’s Secret Angel has made it no secret that her feelings for him are still strong.
On Friday, June 3, the model stepped out to dinner in black tights, a white T-shirt, a red-and-black varsity jacket and a familiar necklace with a pendant with the letter “Z.”
Later in the evening, she even posted a Snapchat video of herself lip-synching to Malik’s “Pillowtalk,” causing more confusion as to the status of their relationship.
The pair first sparked rumors about a relationship last November, but it wasn’t until recent months that they went public with their romance, both on social media and on the red carpet.
The exes were last spotted together in public at the Met Gala in May.
