It’s Britney, bitch! Britney Spears is set to return to the MTV Video Music Awards stage for the first time in nine years for the world premiere performance of her new single “Make Me…” on Sunday, August 28.
The pop princess, 34, announced the exciting news on social media on Tuesday, August 16, with a promo video inspired by her iconic 2001 VMAs performance, in which she famously strutted across the stage while carrying an albino python.
In the new teaser, a python writhes around a dark, neon-lit room with remnants of Spears’ previous VMAs performances as she says, “The VMAs don’t just give you a stage. They give you a story — some way of taking a fraction of a second, and making it live forever. Before you know it, it’s history. Before you know it, it’s Britney, bitch.”
During her performance at this year’s ceremony, the “Toxic” entertainer will be joined by her “Make Me…” collaborator, rapper G-Eazy, in what will likely be yet another unforgettable show.
Spears has been a VMA staple since she started her career in the late ’90s. With 28 nominations and six wins, she has had some of the most talked about moments in music history on the VMAs stage, including her sexy striptease “Oops!… I Did It Again” performance in 2000 and her controversial kiss with Madonna in 2003.
Two days before taking the VMAs stage again, the Louisiana native will release her ninth studio album, Glory.
The 2016 MTV Video Music Awards will air on MTV Sunday, August 28, at 9 p.m. ET.
