Cue the snakes and Kanye West rants! The 2016 MTV Video Music Awards will air live from Madison Square Garden in New York City on Sunday, August 28, at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
Before music’s biggest celebrities grace the stage — and Rihanna accepts this year’s Video Vanguard Award — performers, presenters and attendees will walk the red carpet during MTV’s preshow coverage, which kicks off at 6:15 p.m ET and ends with a postshow at 11:30 p.m. ET.
The iconic awards show will feature the return of pop princess Britney Spears to its stage for the first time in nine years. Spears is scheduled to perform her new single “Make Me …” featuring G-Eazy during the telecast. Her return to the VMAs stage will come on the heels of the release of her ninth studio album, Glory, which is scheduled for release on August 26.
Other performances include Future, Nick Jonas and Rihanna.
Beyoncé dominates this year’s nominations with a career-best 11 nods for her visual album Lemonade, including Video of the Year for “Formation” and Best Female Video for “Hold Up.”
Adele, who made a triumphant return to the music world with her chart-toppling single “Hello” off her third studio album, 25, follows behind Queen Bey with a whopping eight nominations.
Swift, who made headlines during the awards show in 2009 after West, 39, interrupted her acceptance speech, wasn’t nominated this year.
