In a word, stunning! Natalie Portman was the image of elegance in a lace gown at the 2016 Venice Film Festival premiere of Jackie on Wednesday, September 7.
Taking a cue from the iconic first lady that she plays, Portman, 35, embraced retro glamour in the Valentino design, which boasted an A-line silhouette and a lace ruffle at the bodice. For sparkle, she added Bulgari jewelry — including a ring and earrings from the Italian jeweler’s High Jewelry Serpenti collection — featuring more than 50 carats of diamonds combined.

The Oscar-winning actress, who shares son Aleph, 5, with husband Benjamin Millepied, added even more throwback flair with a soft updo teased at the crown. For that windswept look, celeb hairstylist Johnnie Sapong brushed her strands through with a Mason Pearson brush — and his fingers. He then secured the style with plenty of pins and Leonor Greyl Baum Bois de Rose.
Portman has been a busy bee at the Italian film fest. Not only is she promoting Jackie, a biopic directed by Pablo Larraín about the late Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, but also Planetarium, her new film opposite Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis‘ daughter, Lily-Rose Depp. The latter stars the actresses as psychic sisters in prewar France.

Just add these to her list of dramatic films she’d probably rather Aleph not see quite yet — including the Star Wars series. “It’s kind of a shame because you know when I made it, I was like, ‘This is going to be the coolest thing. One day when I have kids, I can show them.’ And boys, of course, are obsessed with it and know all about it before they’ve seen it. Then I realized: I die in the movies. I feel like it’s kind of a scary thing to show your kid,” Portman said on Jimmy Kimmel Live in August.
Jimmy Kimmel joked in reply, “It’s even worse if he likes it!”
