It’s only a matter of time. Paris police chief Christian Sainte said in a new interview — his first with a foreign outlet — that he is “confident” the thieves involved in Kim Kardashian’s October 3 robbery will be caught.
“At this time, there is no doubt about the reality of the crime,” Sainte told Vanity Fair on Monday, October 24, of the terrifying incident in which Kardashian, 36, was tied up, locked in her bathroom and robbed at gunpoint by five assailants dressed as policemen inside her Hotel de Pourtales apartment.
Because the crime involved such a famous victim, paired with the fact that the robbers stole over $10 million worth of jewels, the esteemed Paris crime unit La Brigade de Répression du Banditisme — also known as the B.R.B — a brigade of 100 officers specializing in armed robbery is handling Kardashian’s case.
Sainte did not tell VF if Paris police had identified any potential suspects yet. However, he mentioned that “there is a professional team that committed this crime, and they seem to be organized,” which is why “the B.R.B. is on the case,” he added.
He explained: “The B.R.B. has experience with people who attack with arms, and a big part of the brigade is now working on the Kim Kardashian case.”
Asked by the publication if he feels optimistic that the culprits will be found, Sainte stated: “I’m very confident.”
France’s M6 news released security footage of the robbers on Thursday, October 20. In the video, the attackers are seen approaching the reality star’s home, three on bikes and two on foot, at around 2:29 a.m. local time on October 3. The time stamp on the CCTV footage indicates that the suspects — some on foot and some on bicycles — left the E! personality’s home approximately 49 minutes later.
Since the scary episode took place, Kardashian has been holed up at her Los Angeles–area home with kids North, 3, and Saint West, 10 months. In the latest issue of Us Weekly, an insider tells Us that the Selfish author is haunted by flashbacks of that horrifying night.
“She’s not doing well,” says the insider. “[She’s been having] difficulty sleeping and has anxiety when she leaves the house. She’s never experienced anything like this before. This shattered her world.”
