Awkward! Prince Harry was left red-faced after Antigua Prime Minister Gaston Browne spoke about his relationship with Meghan Markle to a room of 300 guests.
During a speech at an official engagement on Monday, November 21, Browne invited Harry and “new princess” Markle to honeymoon in Antigua.
“I believe we are expecting a new princess soon,” the prime minister of Antigua and Barbuda said. “I want you to know that you are very welcome to come on your honeymoon here, then Antigua and Barbuda want to welcome you. We have been voted consistently as the best honeymoon destination in the Caribbean, and one of the best in the world, so there will be nowhere in the world as special to spend your honeymoon, when that day arrives.”
Onlookers tell Us Weekly that Harry, 34, was “clearly embarrassed” that the subject came up and quickly looked down at his feet. “He went bright red,” the attendee added.
And Browne, 49, didn’t stop there. Referring to Harry — who acknowledged his relationship with Suits actress Markle in a statement last month — having the chance to meet six of the country’s beauty queens at the event, he inappropriately said, “You are the coolest member of the royal family and one of the most successful ones. I am quite sure you will have a wonderful evening. Whatever is done here, stays here. So do not worry.”
Harry, who is currently on a 15-day tour of the Caribbean, attended the reception hosted by the prime minister at Barnacle Point in Antigua. Earlier in the evening, Harry met a number of young local cultural ambassadors and presented Browne with an album of pictures on behalf of Queen Elizabeth. The book displayed images of the Queen’s 1977 visit to the country with Prince Philip.
As part of the tour, the Invictus Games founder will visit six countries where the Queen is official head of state — Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Grenada, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines — and also the Commonwealth nation of Guyana.
