Valerie Harper is setting the record straight about her health. The Mary Tyler Moore Show actress gave an update on her health — slamming rumors that she’s in a coma — on her Facebook account late Friday, July 31.
“My dear friends and fans! As always, thank you for your amazing support. I am happy to report I am not, nor have I been, in a coma,” Harper, 75, wrote. “As anyone who has taken strong medication knows, it doesn’t always agree with you, even with me as this experience proves.”
She added: “I am confronting these hurdles with my usual enthusiasm and love of life. Much love, Valerie.”
As previously reported, Harper – who was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer in 2013 – was hospitalized in Maine on Wednesday before a planned performance of her musical Nice Work If You Can Get It. At the time, the Ogunquit Playhouse told Us Weekly that her facility visit was just a “precaution” and she was resting comfortably. On Saturday, the playhouse announced that actress Brenda Vaccaro would be replacing Harper as Millicent Winter through the end of the show's production, which ends on Aug. 15.
Feeling under the weather hasn't been all that bad for Harper, though. “p.s. But I must confess that the highlight of this ordeal came when I was escorted by two handsome young men and a pilot, in a medivac helicopter, as the full moon lit the sky,” Harper wrote via Facebook. “Talk about movie magic!!!”
