Call him the Kimye crusader! Jaden Smith explained in a new interview why he recently wore a Batman suit to his high school prom, in addition to famously sporting the outfit to Kim Kardashian and Kanye West‘s Florentine wedding last May.
“I wore the Batman suit to heighten my experience at the wedding and [at] prom, which was fun,” Will and Jada Pinkett Smith’s son, 16, told GQ.com. “But also, at the wedding, I felt as though I needed to protect everyone there, and needed to have the proper gear to do so.”
For the star-studded European occasion, the Hollywood scion dressed in a head-to-toe white outfit, complete with a Batman mask. The outfit was such a hit with guests that stars like Kourtney Kardashian, Joe Francis, and Tony Williams requested that he join them in the photo booth.
“Albino Batman….” Williams wrote in one snap, while Kourtney added: “Save me, Batman.”
Following the nuptials, Kris Jenner affectionately spoke about Smith’s Batman suit. “He had this Batman costume on and I thought it was just genius,” the momager told HuffPost Live last June. “When you look at it … it sounds just crazy, [but] it was beautiful. He looked so good.”
According to Smith, his style choices echo his personal life. “Every day it changes,” he mused to GQ.com. “How I feel about the world and myself… but I like wearing super drapey things so I can feel as though I’m a superhero, but don’t have to necessarily wear superhero costumes everyday.”
Jaden even listed some of his personal style icons, most of whom are comic book heroes. “Batman, Robin, Nightwing, Superman,” he shared, adding a human touch to the mix. “And Kanye West.”
Luckily, he’s shying away from making drastic style mistakes. “My dad went on national television with a crop top on, showing his belly button,” Smith shared of Will. “And to this day he regrets it. So, I show him pictures of it and he thinks it’s literally hilarious. Thats my favorite Fresh Prince outfit by far.”
