Move over, endless pasta, soups, and salads! Italian food franchise Olive Garden announced a new addition to its carb-filled menu on Monday, May 11, involving (surprise!) its beloved breadsticks.
"Just when you thought breadsticks couldn't get any better…" the franchise tweeted to its hundreds of thousands of followers. "Introducing the Breadstick Sandwich, coming this summer!"
Accompanying the amazing announcement was a photo of the new entree item — chicken parmesan slathered in melted cheese and marinara sauce, and wedged between two garlicky pieces of Olive Garden's famed breadsticks.
A rep for Darden Restaurants, which owns Olive Garden, as well as other chains like LongHorn Steakhouse and Bahama Breeze, told CBS News on Monday that the recipe for the bread will remain the same. The size, however, will be altered slightly to be shorter and wider than the usual breadsticks offered to restaurant diners.
The sandwiches — which will also be available with a meatball option — will debut in Olive Garden locations on June 1. They will be served with an unlimited side of breadsticks, naturally.
