Think she had an all-blue outfit at the ready, too? Queen Elizabeth II appeared to give a nod to her newborn great-granddaughter, Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, on Saturday, May 2, when she attended an official engagement in head-to-toe pink just hours after Kate Middleton and Prince William welcomed a baby girl into the family.
Her Majesty, 89, was all smiles as she watched the amalgamation parade of The Queen’s Royal Lancers in Yorkshire, England. She stood out in a hot pink coat and matching hat, which she teamed with a white and pink printed scarf, black gloves, and a brooch.
The British monarch was among the first to find out on Saturday morning that her grandson’s wife, the Duchess of Cambridge, was in labor. “All members of the royal family were informed as soon as it was practically possible,” a Kensington Palace spokesperson told Us Weekly after Middleton, 33, was admitted to the Lindo Wing at St. Mary’s Hospital.
Within three hours of her admittance, the Duchess had given birth to a baby girl, her second child with Prince William. “Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a daughter at 8:34 a.m.,” Kensington Palace tweeted, noting that the Queen and other members of both families had been notified.
Incidentally, Prince William’s grandmother wasn’t the only one thinking pink after the baby’s birth. In celebration of the princess’ much-heralded arrival, various UK landmarks including London’s Tower Bridge will light up pink for the evening.
