Ben Crawford has established his alibi on ABC's Secrets and Lies, but Det. Andrea Cornell needs more convincing that he isn't guilty of murdering his neighbor, Tom Murphy. Crawford (Ryan Phillippe) found the young boy's body on the March 1 premiere of ABC's new drama, and while the Good Samaritan is attempting to distance himself from the case, his neighbors — and Det. Cornell — can't help but see him as a suspect.
When episode 3 airs March 8, Det. Cornell (Juliette Lewis) encourages Ben's wife, Kristy, to help clear her husband's name once and for all.
Unfortunately for Ben, she does so during an impromptu home visit. "Isn't Scott Murphy in custody?" Ben asks Cornell as his wife (KaDee Strickland) rummages to locate the receipt for the missing flashlight suggested to be the murder weapon. (Scott, as viewers learned last week, is Tom's flunky, out-of-the-picture father, whom some see as another possible suspect.)
Det. Cornell won't budge on details about the case, and encourages Ben to prove that his flashlight is a different model than the one used in Tom’s murder. As the detective explains, if he fails to comply, she'll be forced to return with a warrant and search team — and likely the press will follow.
