Lady Gaga has been having an amazing February! The “Applause” singer got engaged to longtime beau Taylor Kinney on Valentine’s Day weekend, and followed that up with an incredible Sound of Music tribute at the Oscars on Sunday, Feb. 22. But although she was praised (and embraced!) by Julie Andrews, Gaga got panned for her evening fashion — especially those red kitchen-like gloves.
Gaga, 28, wore a puffy white Azzedine Alaïa gown to the star-studded event, and accessorized with the eye-catching, bizarre gloves. But she swears that it wasn’t done intentionally to cover up her huge heart-shaped engagement ring. The entertainer explained to Ryan Seacrest that she had planned to wear them before Kinney popped the question, and decided not to change her mind last minute.
Gaga and the hunky Chicago Fire actor, 33, got engaged on Feb. 14 after three years of dating. The 15-carat Lorraine Schwartz sparkler even included a “T” and “S” in white diamonds on the band. (She also wore Lorraine Schwartz platinum 20-carat diamond pear-shaped studs to the Oscars!)
The bride-to-be gushed about her new bling via Instagram on Feb. 16, but now admits that Kinney proposed with a much tastier ring at first. (She also noted to Extra that he got down on one knee.)
“First he gave me a Ring Pop. That was kind of amazing and I was crying, I was so excited,” she told Access Hollywood at the 87th Academy Awards. “I said, ‘Yes!’ right away and then he pulled out the heart-shaped diamond. First it was candy. I was happy with the candy.”
“From the moment I met him, my heart was with him,” she gushed. “When you’re in love and have love it makes everything better.”
