Fashion facedown! On a mission to air his many grievances on Friday, Feb. 20, Kanye West tweeted out a response to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week creator Fern Mallis, after she said she was "not a fan" of the rapper and his style.
To Fern Mallis: I just want you to understand that attempting to do clothing has been very difficult

and I have encountered countless amounts of bigotry along the way.

I have millions of ideas and I represent a new generation just trying to express themselves in a broken world.

He then reignited the topic of how fame has affected his foray into fashion.
I don’t call myself a designer as I was not allowed to go to Saint Martins

because I was too famous by the time I realized I wanted to design.

Fame is often looked down upon in the design world, so it’s actually been something I had to overcome.

In an interview with Style.com earlier this week, West, 37, revealed that he lost friends when he first started dating his superstar wife Kim Kardashian. "Soon as we started dating, fashion people were really opposed to the idea of reality stars," the rapper noted. "And all the relationships, the somewhat friends that I had somewhat built up, completely turned their backs on her and me. They already had their back to her, and now they turned it to me."
In his continued Twitter updates on Friday, West noted that criticism will not stop him from generating ideas.
All we have are our dreams, and you can step on our dreams and ideas all you want, but we won’t stop fighting.

We want to innovate and we will win someday.

West concluded his messages to Mallis by telling her to make a reservation to meet at The Spotted Pig, a downtown Manhattan gastropub where he dined with former enemy Taylor Swift earlier this week.
If you wanna have a drink with me, book a table at the spotted pig when I’m back in NY.

West made quite the splash on Friday after he gave a loaded one-hour interview to Power 105.1's The Breakfast Club, discussing topics like Amber Rose, Beck, Kylie Jenner, and more. The My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy hitmaker showcased his latest collaboration with Adidas at New York Fashion Week last Thursday.
In his Style.com interview, West said he grasped that not everyone would be receptive to his designs. "This audience isn’t on my side, anyways," he said. "It’s the fashion audience. They’re not even on their own side… Fashion is merely an opinion. And I’ve got a lot of opinions."
Regardless, West explained that he has grown as a designer as he's become more self-aware as a creator since the birth of his daughter North, 20 months. "I didn’t know who I was until I had a daughter," he admitted. "And then I realized that the purpose of life was to protect her and my wife at all costs. And that is who I am."
