Well, that’s inventive!
One can only imagine all the weird, strange, and downright bizarre red carpet beauty hacks that have occurred over the years, but this one definitely takes the cake!
Viola Davis looked cool as a cucumber in a white Max Mara gown at the 2015 Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday, Jan. 25, but prior to the event, she experienced pain from a bunion in her right foot.
Before she hit the carpet (and won the Best Actress in a TV Series award), the How to Get Away With Murder star, 49, sent her husband, Julius Tennon, to pick up a surprising staple.
“Before the awards I said, ‘Just in case something happens I told my husband to go to the store and get a can of Crisco,” she said on the Monday, Feb. 2, episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “He’s such a beautiful husband, he said, ‘You want a small can or a big can of Crisco?'”
Davis explained that she used the all-vegetable shortening for baking and frying food, to lubricate her feet during her awards show prep, and that she feared slipping and falling before reaching the stage. “The next thought I had when they announced my name is, ‘Okay this is it, I’m going to fall flat on my face.'”
As strange as her beauty hack may sound, Davis’ Crisco oil saved the day! The star’s stroll to the stage was couldn’t have been more graceful. “Yeah so the Crisco worked very well,” Davis said. “I recommend it. It keeps the friction away form the shoe and the toe and there you go.”
