You can get down to “this sick beat,” but don’t try to capitalize on it. Taylor Swift has trademarked the standout lyric from her chart-topping hit “Shake It Off.”
According to the government’s trademark site, the songstress filed for ownership on Oct. 26, 2014 and lists everything from “public appearances” to “clothing” and “ornaments.”
She also trademarked several other phrases from her smash album 1989. Among them?
“Party like it’s 1989,” “Nice to meet you. Where you been?,” “Cause we never go out of style,” and “Could show you incredible things.”
The move comes after Swift’s 1989 album became the first album this year to sell 1 million copies and then the No. 1 selling album of all of 2014. And even though only one song was eligible for the 2015 Grammys, the songstress managed to secure three nominations.
So basically, Swift deserves ownership!
