Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of her life. Julianne Moore reflected back on her humble soap star beginnings while accepting the SAG Award on Sunday, Jan. 25, for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role.
The Still Alice actress, 54, kicked off her speech with a shout-out to CBS daytime drama, As the World Turns, in which she starred from 1985 to 1988. “Thank you so much, the Screen Actors Guild for this!” Moore gushed to a room filled with her Hollywood peers including Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, and more.
“When I was on As the World Turns…” she proceeded with a smile, as the room burst out into cheers. “Yeah! I was so excited when they wrote two parts for me: the classic twin sister role — the good and the evil one. Then, I realized it was super boring to act by myself, and what I really loved, what I really craved, and what was most exciting for me was being with another actor.”
She mused: “Feeling intimacy and that excitement and thrill of getting to know somebody. And that’s what brings me back again and again.”
In that same vein, Moore — who plays an author diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s in Still Alice — went on to thank her costars Kristen Stewart, Hunter Parrish, Kate Bosworth, and Alec Baldwin.
Other big celebrities who once starred on As the World Turns include Amanda Seyfried, Sarah Hyland, Meg Ryan, Marisa Tomei, and James Earl Jones.
