Leave it to Leonardo DiCaprio to not only complete the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, but to donate a hefty amount and challenge a head of state.
“Hello from Lake Athabasca, we’re here learning about the Canadian tar sands. We took a moment to join the #IceBucketChallenge movement in support of the ALS Association,” the Wolf of Wall Street actor wrote on his Facebook page on Monday, Aug. 25 after being nominated by David Beckham. “My friends Chief Adam of the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation challenges Dave Collyer, president of Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers, Chief Courtoreille of the Mikisew Cree First Nation challenges Mark Little of Suncor Canada, and Sierra Club President Michael Brune challenges Shell CEO Ben van Beurden. And me? In addition to a donation from my foundation, I challenge Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper,” he added.
A source close to the cause tells Us Weekly the actor also donated a hefty $100,000 on behalf of his foundation, the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation.
DiCaprio is in the Lake Athabasca region near the Saskatchewan province in Canada working on his latest project Carbon, a new documentary about climate change and the impact of carbon emissions.
