Robert Downey Jr.'s son Indio has been charged with felony drug possession stemming from his cocaine arrest last month, TMZ reports. According to the site, the 20-year-old was also charged with misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and is entitled to a drug diversion program.
As previously reported, Indio was in a car with two other people when the vehicle was pulled over by police officers on June 29. Indio was searched and arrested on charges of cocaine possession.
Indio's father, who has struggled with drug addiction and spent time behind bars, spoke out about his son's troubles following the incident.
"Unfortunately there's a genetic component to addiction and Indio has likely inherited it," Downey Jr., 49, told Us Weekly in a statement at the time. "There is a lot of family support and understanding, and we’re all determined to rally behind him and help him become the man he's capable of being.
"We're grateful to the Sheriff’s department for their intervention," he continued, "and believe Indio can be another recovery success story instead of a cautionary tale."
