Wonder of wonders, miracle of miracles! At the last possible moment, the cult-favorite comedy Community was saved from cancelation by Yahoo, who picked the former NBC show out of obscurity and renewed it for season 6.
The hold on the show’s cast was supposed to expire on Monday, June 30, but it looks like Jeff Winger and co. will live on for another season. Show creator Dan Harmon will also return and said in a press release, “I look forward to bringing our beloved NBC sitcom to a large audience by moving it online. I vow to dominate our new competition. Rest easy, Big Bang Theory. Look out, Bang Bus!”
The comedy will have 13 episodes in season 6. Before the news broke of the renewal, star Joel McHale spoke to Us Weekly about the possible ending of his show.
“The questions about the show are still coming. I know that the fans are still there,” he told Us. “We all really like each other. I know the show is really good if I do say so myself. I've been in many crappy shows but this isn't one of them. We did well in the ratings.”
In the statement from Yahoo, McHale added, “Thank you Sony. Thank you Yahoo. Thank you Dan Harmon. And thank you to the greatest f%$#ing fans in the history of the human race. It’s the internet. We can swear now."
