It suits him! In his first interview since welcoming baby boy Eric with girlfriend Lauren Silverman, Simon Cowell has opened up about fatherhood — and what it was like when he found out the New York socialite was in labor!
"Phone rings at half passed five in the morning," Cowell, 56, told his ex Terri Seymour in a recent Extra interview. "So we had to find a flight, which we did, and I got there with two hours to spare."
"I held him within five minutes of him being born," the British star added. "I actually said to Lauren beforehand, 'What if I like the dogs more than him?' And she said, 'You're gonna be absolutely fine.' And then literally within seconds of him being born, I got it!" He added: "I was born to be a dad!"
Cowell and Silverman, 36, welcomed their first child together in NYC on Feb. 14. The former X Factor judge named his little boy after his late father, who died in 1999 of a heart attack at the age of 81.
"I look at him, Eric, and I think of my Dad all the time, so it's a really good thing," Cowell continued to Seymour. The new dad will also be traveling to London soon for his mother [Julie] to meet her new grandson. "I think she's told the whole village," Cowell joked. "She's really excited."
So, is Cowell open to having more children in the future? "I wouldn't rule it out! Well, I got Squiddly and Diddly," he said of his dogs. "I had a brother when I was younger so I kind of think it's cool to have two or three…two."
