Sorry, ladies, but the breakout hair star of the 2014 awards show season is Jared Leto.
While many gents stick to one hairstyle for the red carpet, the Dallas Buyers Club actor, 42, has worn his shoulder-length ombre hair in more styles than Lupita Nyong’o on the red carpet, including a man-bun at the Golden Globes and beach waves at the SAG Awards.
But how will the Oscar nominee — and presumed frontrunner — for Best Supporting Actor style his enviable hair for Sunday’s event? While the final style won’t be picked until the day-of, Leto’s longtime stylist, Chase Kusero, revealed a few details on what will and won’t happen to his revered locks.
“When I see him, we’ll play with his hair for some photos — maybe a high bun, maybe half up, half down — and then go from there,” Lusero told Into the Gloss. “The big thing on my shoulders right now is if the hair is gonna be up or down — I’m voting up, because we’ve only done it maybe once before. I want to do something with a side part this time, something cleaner. And I want to try to get a bun that’s nice and small, more like a traditional knot.”
Lusero also dished on a style that he’s obsessed with, one that none other than Beyonce rocked at the Grammys earlier this month: “The only thing I can say is that right now I’m all about the ‘wet look.'”
While the stylist has ruled out a haircut for Leto (“It’s looking so good that we don’t really want to cut it”), Lusero is aware of the difficulties in styling long hair on a man. “It’s really important that he doesn’t look like a woman — that’s the biggest challenge,” he said. “It’s been hard to have him not end up on the ‘best hair’ lists — and that definitely hasn’t been our intention. We’ve even had all these actresses, like Olivia Wilde and Rachel Bilson and Julia Roberts, asking about his hair. He has amazing hair, so it’s kind of inevitable.”
