Modern Family‘s co-creator Steve Levitan offered a provocative challenge to Ann Romney — the wife of Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, who recently named the ABC comedy as her favorite TV show.
“Thrilled Ann Romney says ModFam is her favorite show,” Levitan Tweeted after Ann, 63, praised the groundbreaking series in an interview with The Insider. “We’ll offer her the role of officiant at Mitch & Cam’s wedding. As soon as it’s legal.”
Played by Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet, Mitch and Cam, of course, are the show’s committed gay couple and the parents of an adopted little girl, Lily.
The would-be First Lady’s fandom of the show is slightly at odds with her husband and his political party’s stance on marriage equality.
“Marriage is between one man and one woman,” former Massachusetts governor Mitt, 65, said in June. The couple also belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which helped raise million of dollars in 2008 to support anti-gay-marriage bill Proposition 8 in California.
One of the most nominated shows at this year’s Emmys (handed out Sept. 23) Modern Family premieres its fourth season next month.
